Join us to photograph the magic of Lake Michigan in the winter. Winter at the lake can have a lot of interesting possibilities. From ice covering everything , to winter waves, wind swept beaches and more. We will have a variety of accessories for you to try out and learn how to use. Neutral Density Filter, Glass Ball and others.
Our plan is below, but we will adjust based on weather and ice conditions. The plan will be to start in Muskegon and work south. Going to Grand Haven and ending in Holland around sunset.

Given the screwy weather that is Michigan, this event might be canceled all together. I watch the weather and different webcams in the area. Please make sure you register with an email and cell phone , we might use text message to contact you with updates.

We , typically,  would stop for lunch in Grand Haven. With our new "normal" we might have to adjust those plans.

From there it's time to head east with cards full of great images.

You should consider bringing the following with your camera.

Tripod, wide angle and telephoto lens, Remote or cable release, Polarizing filter, Neutral density filters. Multiple batteries would be a must. The colder the weather the shorter batteries last.

You will want to dress for the outdoors in the winter. Warm layers and sturdy boots with a good grip. Ice grippers for the bottom of boots are nice and are available at most sporting goods stores

Muskegon is about 3 hours from Detroit via I-94. For those looking to carpool. we will put people in contact with each other’s.

The fine print for this event:

  1. Walking out to the lighthouses is along packed snow and ice covered break-wall or walkways. It is un-even and has no railings. With the use of common sense it is easy to walk out and back. You are always welcome to go as far as you feel comfortable. But the effort is worth it.
  2. Weather leading up to this can have a great effect on the area and ice coverings. We will be monitoring the weather in the area, if we experience a warm up leading up to our day, we will cancel the trip. I cannot guarantee what we will find on arrival.
  3. All participants will be asked to sign a liability release before we get started.
