Waterford Hills is one of the oldest race tracks in the United States, and the only road racing course in South East Michigan. 60 years ago, a group of Oakland County Sports Club members started running time trials on a dirt road course they built themselves. It was quickly rebuilt, paved, and race ready. Today, with 12 turns and numerous elevation changes, packed into 1.5 miles of pavement, it is a drivers and spectators delight, with almost full course viewing.
Admission to the track and paddock (staging/tuning area) are NOT included in the price of this event, you will need $10 to purchase both. You will have full access to the race track, and cars before and as they enter the track. However, due to safety, there is no access to the infield allowed. Rest assured you can get very close to the track from outside the infield. We will even have access to a photographers stand on the first major turn of the track. Several additional locations prime for photography will be shared.
A 70-200 lens should be enough to capture all the action as you move around the track. A longer lens 500-600 will give you reach almost accross the entire track from any location. If you have 2 camera bodies, or the ability to store user settings in your camera that may be helpful. It will allow you to change between slow shutter speeds (30-60) for panning shots and still shots at faster shutter speeds (1000).
There will be food and drinks avaialbe to purchase at the track, bring money to feed and hydrate yourself :)
*In case of cancellation due to rain, the alternate makeup date will be Sunday, June 26th.
